blog Hotspot alert! EXKi

Local and organic food at the central station.

Because every trip often starts at the train station, and that is one reason why I am glad this healthy hotspot founds its way to Utrecht Central Station.

At EXKi you will find local and organic dishes that are often vegetarian, dairy and gluten free. So you can feel at ease with EXKi. EXKi can be spot by their logo as it is a bright orange carrot. I told you so… this is a healthy hotspot. Once inside, the smell of freshly grinded coffee and baked cookies will meet you at the door. I love that smell! Check if one of the lovely mint coloured benches are still available, that offer you a view of the trains that come and go. As Utrecht Central is the largest station in the Netherlands a lot of real-life soaps can be watched over here. Maybe you can pot a couple who just got engaged or someone that stands on the platform… Yep he missed his train. Anyway…. coffee, check! At the menu you got a lot of choices. Will it be breakfast, lunch or dinner? And then the next question: “Do you want a 2,3 or 5 course menu?!”.  I’ll go for a salad with salmon and a green matcha latte. And ssst… also a dessert, called a “pasteis de nata” (a delicious cake from Lisbon and a personal favourite of mine)

It is all possible at EXKi. They are open from 07:00 till 21:00. Another nice thing to know is that every month another vegetable is in the spotlight and they renew the entire menu twice a year. So each time you can order something different.

EXKi is located at the walking promenade of Utrecht Central and many other restaurants can be found here such as the Seafoodbar, Wagamama and Vapiano's. From the pavilion you can walk into Hoog Catherijne (a shopping mall). I say: "shop till you drop!".
