‘A whole new designed part of Utrecht’,
that’s what you can call the Vredenburg quay. With its beautiful neighbour the canal next door. This is a place where you want to hang out when nice weather is forecasted. Even on gray days, do not hesitate to come here. Coffee bars and good lunch spots are awaiting you to add that extra sparkle to your day. In addition, you can swing into the evening as the music temple Tivoli is gleaming at this skyline.
Café het Gegeven Paard en Tivoli
Most of the locals have been here and Tivoli is well-known and easily recognisable through its design (all dots from the outside). It is the place to be and since they are on the Vredenburg quay they are also an eye-catcher. Check their program to see if there is a concert you like and go for it. Surprise yourself! In wintertime a great spot is Café het Gegeven Paard. But maybe it is even better in summer time with the large terrace. Order a rose lemonade and a portion of Dutch ‘bitterballen’. Enjoy the sun over here where at the end of the afternoon a tan is guaranteed.
This roomy restaurant with its remarkable black and white floors and large mirror wall is just a small piece of Paris in Utrecht. That is why we say 'Enchanté Danel!' You are welcome here for lunch, drinks and dinner. All dishes do have a touch of “la douce France”. If we may recommend you, we would go for the oysters and the tarte tatin. All dishes are to share. If you are curious about how all the dishes are made then take a seat at the chef’s table. Who knows, maybe you are the lucky one who goes home with a secret recipe.
With its right red chairs in front of the door, it is difficult to walk passed this brasserie. De Utrechter is ideal for a coffee and lunch. But it really comes to life in the evening. Young or old it doesn’t matter, everybody comes here …They all have this spot on their must-visit list.
A good cup of coffee, you will certainly find it here! Espresso’s, latte’s, regular coffee and drip coffee are all present. Find a spot in the front of the bar where the walls are decorated with large images of coffee plants. Or if you prefer to sit in the back, then go for the big brown armchair. Do you want to have something sweet that comes with your coffee!? No problem! Ask one of the barista’s what the cake of the day is and spoil yourself. The cakes are made by the barista’s themselves. And I can tell you, that banana bread is a home runner! The coffee bar is beloved along locals and a second bar/boutique is opening soon at the Zadelstraat.
ROOST aan de Singel
A lovely tune is always present here and the smell of the barbeque will meet you at the door. The dishes they serve are prepared on an authentic South African ‘braai’. It is the ideal spot to be laid-back and to spend an afternoon. Because ROOST is at an intersection you always have something to see. It’s one of my favourite spots and therefore I can be found here often.
